AUHS Foundation: Cultivating care into a lifelong passion

In all fields of study, enrichment does not only happen within the four corners of a classroom. Sometimes, it also entails students to explore the world and to make a difference in the society.

This is what the AUHS Foundation hopes to achieve: to cultivate care into a lifelong passion.

A charitable 501c3 and educational non-profit organization, the foundation was created to help the poor, distressed, and underprivileged through education, research, and funding in the health sciences, particularly in nursing, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology.

To educate the next leaders in healthcare, the organization believes that vigilance toward care, respect, and humility must be engraved into its curriculum. Through the foundation, students are given opportunities to participate in various outreach programs and are taught how to be competent healthcare professionals by keeping in mind that caring is a life-long passion.

Proving the power of compassion and love, the foundation recently held an event titled Acts of Love: Giving Thanks, which collated staff members and students of the university to distribute boxes of Thanksgiving groceries, such as turkey, stuffing, potatoes, rice, vegetables, juice, and pie for approximately 800 families within the Signal Hill and Long Beach area.

Among the other activities of the foundation are the community-driven “Santa Cause,” which aims to deliver food and toys for the homeless and underprivileged population of Signal Hill in the Christmas season, and Pie In The (Eye) Sky, which allows students to go overseas to help address some of the pressing health care needs in areas hit by calamities.
