AUHS Foundation: Cultivating care into a lifelong passion

In all fields of study, enrichment does not only happen within the four corners of a classroom. Sometimes, it also entails students to explore the world and to make a difference in the society.

This is what the AUHS Foundation hopes to achieve: to cultivate care into a lifelong passion.

A charitable 501c3 and educational non-profit organization, the foundation was created to help the poor, distressed, and underprivileged through education, research, and funding in the health sciences, particularly in nursing, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology.

To educate the next leaders in healthcare, the organization believes that vigilance toward care, respect, and humility must be engraved into its curriculum. Through the foundation, students are given opportunities to participate in various outreach programs and are taught how to be competent healthcare professionals by keeping in mind that caring is a life-long passion.

Proving the power of compassion and love, the foundation recently held an event titled Acts of Love: Giving Thanks, which collated staff members and students of the university to distribute boxes of Thanksgiving groceries, such as turkey, stuffing, potatoes, rice, vegetables, juice, and pie for approximately 800 families within the Signal Hill and Long Beach area.

Among the other activities of the foundation are the community-driven “Santa Cause,” which aims to deliver food and toys for the homeless and underprivileged population of Signal Hill in the Christmas season, and Pie In The (Eye) Sky, which allows students to go overseas to help address some of the pressing health care needs in areas hit by calamities.

A life career in nursing

Some people are nurses by heart. Caring for people by promoting health, preventing diseases, and helping patients cope with illnesses comes to them naturally.

In the past decades, nursing as a profession has taken off considerably. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), between 2010 and 2020, the employment of nurses in the United States is projected to grow up to 26 percent due to higher healthcare demand from aging Baby Boomers.

For these varying reasons, many people today are considering nursing as a choice of discipline in college. A step toward this goal is choosing a university or college that could help a person walk through this life-changing path.

For the American University of Health Sciences, the choice of following one’s dream and passion of becoming a nurse means creating a meaningful experience and positive impact in the society, which could be achieved through the provision of competent, caring, and evidence-based nursing services to diverse patient populations.

The core strength of the academic institution flourishes via its Bachelor of Science in Nursing program that commits to help underserved communities by recruiting and selecting students who are poorly represented in the nursing community. A career in nursing can be rewarding to students who see beyond the horizon in planning their lives as young professionals. By tying up the healthcare calling with a civic duty to make healthcare available to every citizen, a good nursing school sows the path with the right seeds for reaping.
